Xtreme Everest's Dr Andy Cumpstey and his wife Elizabeth featured in their local newspaper the Romsey Advertiser recently, as they told them all about their role in the XEX expedition.

Dr Cumpstey and his wife helped to lead one of the trekking groups as well as participating in the research. Andy was also part of the lab team undertaking the testing at Kathmandu, Namche and Pheriche.

The research for this expedition included blood sample collection, microbiome samples and detailed ultrasounds of the trekkers hearts and lungs. Alongside this Elizabeth and Andy also participated in a wearable technology study which saw them wearing special physiological monitoring vests and pulse oximeters. These were worn all day and assessed their breathing rate, ECG, heart rate and sleeping positions

Elizabeth, who is a teacher from Hampshire Collegiate School, said that it was "certainly a busy trip requiring both physical and mental strength from everyone" and that she is "very proud to be able to say I have helped in the success of this expedition, and to be part of the Xtreme Everest team.”
