Prof Mike Grocott's new paper, written in conjunction with a colleague at Salzburg General Hospital Austria, features in the British Journal of Anaesthesia.

The paper entitled Facing acute hypoxia: from the mountains to critical care medicine looks at hypoxia in patients and how that, on a cellular level, this effects the signalling pathways and their control upon the oxygen consumption.

This all comes from work which was done at high altitude on Everest by the Xtreme Everest team, and talks of the advantage of using a homogenous study population, in contrast to studying the heterogeneous population which you would typically find on an intensive care unit.
