CASE Medicine's colleagues, Professors Mike Tipton and Hugh Montgomery, are offering a funded PhD looking at studying the human neurovascular response to cold. The project will involve using military subjects. Clinically based applicants (such as physiology, ICU, anaesthesia, occupational health, GP etc) are encouraged to apply for this opportunity.

Both Mike and Hugh have a keen interest in the area of physiological and psychological responses to adverse environments and this PhD will offer you the chance to work with colleagues who are leaders in research in this area.

Mike is the Director of Research for the Department of Sport & Exercise Science at Portsmouth University and has spent 35 years working in the areas of thermoregulation, environmental and occupational physiology. As well as undertaking teaching and numerous guest lectures, Mike is also editor in chief of Experimental Physiology.

Hugh is the director of the UCL Institute for Human Health and Performance at University College London and also practices as a consultant in critical care at the Whittington Hospital in north London. Alongside this he is also co editor in chief of Extreme Physiology & Medicine.
